My friends invited me on a short roadtrip to Veracruz and it was so much fun. We had a delicious breakfast and did a quick pass through Coatepec, one of the Pueblos Mágicos and one of the country's main coffee-growing regions. Some of the best coffee I've had.
From there we headed to Xalapa, the capital of Veracruz, and checked out the Xalapa Anthropology Museum, home to the largest collection of Olmecas heads in the country. A cultural stop you can't skip.
We also visited the Quiahuiztlán archaeological site, which has remains of an old Totonaca cemetery. The view from up there out to the Gulf of Mexico is spectacular.
Our final stop was La Villa Rica de la Vera Cruz, said to be where the first Spanish settlement was founded. In Villa Rica we ate really well, checked out a couple of lookout points, and got some beach time in between rain showers since the weather was pretty rainy.
It was a super cultural weekend and perfect for unplugging.
